THE INFANTILE & ADOLESCENT OBGYN. LATINAMERICAN ASSOCIATION
The Infantile & Adolescent Obgyn Latin-American Association (ALOGIA) is a nonprofit organization formed by Institutions (Societies, Associations, Federations) being national or regional groups working in the specialty. It was founded in 1993 in Santiago-Chile with the participation of Argentine, Brasil , Colombia , Chile , Cuba , Ecuador , Mexico , Paraguay , Peru , Uruguay and Venezuela . Its main objective was the development of a multidisciplinary specialty with regional characteristics.
ALOGIA has contributed during the last 14 years in promoting and developing the capacitation of obgyn Md´s and professionals of related specialties emphasizing on sexual and reproductive health problems of infants and adolescents with a multidisciplinary approach. Argentina´s Infantile and Juvenile Society is the oldest in the Region founded in 1973 short after The International Infantile and Juvenile Gynecological Federation (FIGIJ). ALOGIA was established during the III Congress of the specialty in Santiago Chile one year after the idea that initially took place in Buenos Aires .
The Argentine Republic was designated unanimously as the first country to held the first Executive Committee of ALOGIA.
Venezuela was designated to organize the IV Latinamerican Congress of Infantile and Juvenil Gynecology.
The first ALOGIA board of directors was integrated by: President: Dr. José María Méndez Ribas, Secretary Der. Beatriz Pereyra Pacheco and Treasurer Dra Inés de la Parra. As country delegates: Argentine: Dra Eugenia Trumper and Dr. Ana Coll; Brasil: Dr. Alvaro Da Cunha Bastos and Dr. Albertina Duarte Talkutti; Chile: Dr. Cecilia Kramarosky Donskoy and Dr. Ramiro Molina Cartes; Colombia: Dr. Jaime Urdinola and Dr. Javier Barrios Amaya; Cuba: Dr. Jorge Peláez Mendoza; Ecuador: Dr. Jorge Narváez; Mexico: Dr. Enrique Dulanto Gutierrez; Paraguay: Dr. Antonio Miguel Ruoti and Dr. Rosa Inés Prieto; Peru: Dr. Roberto Rodriguez Luna; Uruguay: Dr. Enrique Pons and Dra. Estela Conselo and Venezuela: Dr. Antonio Perera Pérez and Dr. Bestalia Sanchez de la Cruz. Dr. Enrique Onetto B. presented a draft of By-laws previously prepared and was designated in charge of preparing the final version to be adjusted with ideas coming from the other countries of ALOGIA.
ALOGIA has advanced and promoted most aspects of Sexual and Reproductive Health of Adolescents including Infantile Gynecology, by means of Congresses, Seminars, Courses etc. and communications with other Societies via a Regional Bulletin that is currently our Web Page.
ALOGIA has currently 19 country members .
ALOGIA has two members among the Board of Directors of the International Federation of Infantile and Juvenile Gynecology (FIGIJ) and the later is directly related to the International Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecology (FIGO). Furthermore, ALOGIA is linked with other Institutions such as Adolescent Committee of the Latin-American Pediatric Society (ALAPE), Panamerican Health Organization (OPS), Latin-American Obgyn Federation (FLASOG) and Central America Federation of Obgyn Societies (FECASOG).
Most gratifying for ALOGIA is the responsibility of organizing and directing the International Examination of Pediatric Gynecology (IFEPAG) depending from FIGIJ.
During the annual Congress of the Northamerican Society of Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology (NASPAG) to be held in June 2002, ALOGIA is officially going to be represented by 4 countries of our region i.e.Argentine, Chile , Mexico and Uruguay .
We can not cover all aspects of ALOGIA during this first editorial and all events currently under way specially those related to human resources of the region. This and much more are going to be our permanent aims to keep up with an electronic Bulletin and all the possible links with countries in a net that can offer im predictable weapons for distant training for all professionals related to our specialty.
